Para comerte mejor / All the better to eat you with

El vídeo que us vull mostrar avui és ben especial. És el famós curt de la Caputxeta vermella, el meu TFC, la meva carta de presentació més enllà de l’universitat.

Érem amateurs del 3D però ho volíem intentar. El Thomas i jo ens vam encarregar del disseny, modelatge, animació, guió, producció i postpo del curt. Estàvem plens d’energia però ni tan sols nosaltres mateixos sabíem que se’ns escaparia de les mans. No és senzill treure forces per fer caminar un personatge en 3D, quan ni tan sols tu saps quin és el camí a seguir.

Però ens en vam sortir.

No m’agrada recordar-ne el procés perquè va ser dur. Van ser moltes les il·lusions i els desenganys; les alegries i les decepcions; les amistats i les desamistats.

Va costar-nos 1.000 euros.
Va endur-se 1 any i mig de les nostres vides.
Hi van treballar 7 persones, donant el millor d’elles mateixes i, sovint, sense esperar cap recompensació a canvi.
Va suposar 2 mesos i mig de renders.
Es van corregir molts errors inicials (tot i així, com veureu, encara en queden uns quants; però arriba un punt en què cal dir prou i prioritzar el temps i la salut personal).

No m’arrepenteixo de res, però potser ara hauríem fet les coses d’una altra manera. I suposo que d’això es tractava: poder fer un assaig pre-professional de com funcionen les coses en el món real. Suposo que per això només els bons sobreviuen. Els altres, ens conformarem en guardar una còpia al calaix per ensenyar-la algun dia als nostres néts. I allà es quedarà el famós TFC, dins d’una caràtula, al costat de les càpsules de ràdio o les pràctiques a plató.

I sense més paraules, us deixo veure el famós curt, esperant que digueu la vostra ^.^ No us talleu, hem sabut encaixar bé les crítiques (constructives i destructives) i som els primers que critiquem el nostre propi treball. Tot i així, val a dir que va ser encoratjador que el tribunal de la Pompeu ens el qualifiqués prou bé.

Aquí sota he escrit quatre línies del curt, per posar-vos en situació. A continuació veureu la versió castellana, tot i que l’original sempre ha estat, per a nosaltres, l’anglesa (si la voleu veure, la trobareu sota l’explicació en anglès; més avall)

PD. estic meditant sobre fer el muntatge del making off. Durant l’any i mig de treball, vaig gravar i guardar tot allò que donés mostra de com es fa un TFC d’animació. Tinc el material però em falten les ganes. Potser un dia d’aquests m’hi poso. Trobo que seria una excel·lent manera d’explicar en imatges tot el que va costar i representar.

ENGLISH VERSION

The following video is my last short movie, called All the Better to eat you with, which was made between september 2005 and january 2007. It is my final thesis, my CV out of University and for sure the biggest thing i’ve ever made.

My colleague Thomas Goltzsche (Germany) and I designed, wrote, animated and produced the whole movie. We were amateurs of 3D but we really wanted to do it. So, as Nike adverts say, we «just did it».

It costed us 1.000 euros. We involved 5 other people, who helped us with the music and the voices and worked for free. It took 2 months and a half to renderize. And in the end, there were still a lot of mistakes.

If we had to restart from the beginning we’d probably do it in a different way, but i don’t regret anything. It was our first real movie and we didn’t know it would take us so long to finish it. The whole thing was too big for both of us.

The movie won’t go anywhere; it won’t win anything. Let’s be realistic: there are better short animation movies. However this is our’s and we are proud of it.

I don’t like remembering the whole process, but i’m thinking of editing the images for the making off. I already have the material (videos, photos, audios) but I really don’t feel like doing it. By the end of the project we were so exhausted that we just focused on forgeting everything. However, today I thought that it maybe could help somebody to understand the whole process of creating an animation movie. We’ll see…

The story is about Little red riding hood. A new version of the famous fairy tale. In fact, it’s our own version. Before watching it, make sure you read and understand the following lines, that will put you in the story 😉
